Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi

Various info about the film
.  Mangas are often shun as being violent or/and misogynist, so this film is a good opportunity to see it is only an unfair generalisation. So even if you did not like other Japanese anime, you should nevertheless give this one a chance. Actually, Chihiro's story was originally conceived for young girls, as the director thought no film had yet been made truly for them. Thus he chose to create a believable realistic heroin, whom they could truly identify with. Though he also wanted to offer them a good story without all the usual sickeningly sugary elements often present in the material aimed at girls. The result is a great tale, beautiful and strange, fine and moving, which captivates everyone instead of trying to please a stereotyped audience!
.  The director, Hayao Miyazaki, received Berlin's film festival prize, the "Ours d'Or", as well as the Japanese 'best film' prize, for Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi. He is also well-known for his previous highly-praised works, including: Laputa, Porco Rosso and Monoke Hime. When asked why most of his lead characters are females, he simply replies that he loves women.
