R.E.M. is short for rapid eye movement, referring to these uncontrolled
physical gestures people have when they sleep. The band formed in 1980 and not only they have been composing and playing
ver since, but they are also still absolutely brilliant.
Members are Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe & Bertis Downs and Jefferson Holt.

Their style can be described as indie rock. They rely mostly on both accoustic and
electric guitar, bass, drums but also keyboard and mandolin. Their songs tend to be either very slow and quiet or overly lively
and rhythmic but they are never depressing, just either beautiful and relaxing or full of joy and energy, occasionally
politically involved and revolted (Ignoreland, Losing my Religion), rarely aggressive. |
